Energy monitoring across 11 industrial plants
How a custom-built data acquisition and KPI platform saved a client from losing €2 million in White Certificates in its first year.
The context
An Italian energy-efficiency consultancy, based in the province of Bologna, manages White Certificate (TEE) processes for its clients: titles that reward verified energy savings in industrial facilities.
The operation covers 11 industrial plants. Each plant generates consumption and performance data that must be collected, validated and turned into reliable KPIs. Those KPIs underpin the applications on which certificates are issued.
The problem
The value of a White Certificate depends on proving the facility's performance. If a plant underperforms and nobody detects it in time, the application suffers and the expected certificates are lost.
Monitoring was a scattered process: data in different systems, manual validation and limited visibility between reviews. A performance anomaly detected late translates directly into lost certificates.
The solution
I designed and built a custom energy monitoring platform, end to end:
- Acquisition pipelines that automatically collect data from the 11 plants.
- Data validation at the source, so a faulty sensor does not contaminate the KPI.
- Calculation and visualisation of operational KPIs per plant.
- Early alerts when performance deviates from expectations.
- Automated reporting for certification applications.
The results
The platform detected a performance anomaly early enough to correct it before it compromised a client's White Certificates.
Value of the certificate portfolio whose processes now rely on the platform.
Continuously monitored, with operational KPIs per plant.
From data receipt to an operational diagnosis with clear priorities.
The stack is not the point: the system turned an invisible risk into a KPI watched every day. If the value of your operation depends on data that is reviewed late or by hand today, it is worth a look together.
